Remember when you were in school, playing minor hockey and/or in a band? Those were some fun exciting times. But it wasn’t all just fun and games. There were also challenges that had to be faced, not just on the rink or stage, but off of it as well. The challenge always seemed to be finding various ways to raise enough money to keep those exiting activities alive and well.. We’d come home with order forms in hand, boxes of chocolate bars under arm or a persuasive pitch to talk mom into a Canadian Living subscription and dad into Golf Digest. It wasn’t easy. In fact, hitting the streets, or picking up the phone to call Aunt Kathy asking for donations was downright hard. Today, however, is another story. Fundraising is getting a bit more fun and a little easier to raise the funds so crucially necessary for the success of various programs and organizations.
In the past two years, more than 50,000 Canadians have participated in the national phenomenon that has become known as DO4URS, or Drive One 4 UR School/Community. The program, which started over two years ago, features events hosted by local Ford dealerships that benefit high schools and organizations within their region.
Essentially, Ford of Canada and local Ford Dealers partner up to host a charity test drive. Each household can count for one test drive and earn twenty-dollars towards the sponsored school or community organization. Each event has the potential of raising six thousand dollars. Last year, the Drive One 4 UR School program raised its one-millionth dollar.
The program features an exciting drive component, where our local Ford Dealers volunteer their latest vehicle models for the public to test drive,. This allows the community to share in the experience of driving a Ford vehicle, something many in the community have never done before. In fact, 72% of the test drives were conducted with community members who currently drive a competitive brand’s vehicle, providing them a hands on opportunity to drive a new Ford vehicle.
If you’re wonder what the most popular vehicles test driven were during the event, check them out below. (It’s no wonder we were able to raise one million dollars)
It’s important to note that each DO4URS/C event is unique in that they bring local elements like a BBQ, carwash, sports celebrities, bands, dance squads and more to add to the excitement and encourage community support. Some of the end uses of the funds generated from the program include sports equipment, mission trips, housing projects, musical instruments, food for the hungry, mentorship for youth at risk, park renovations and many more.
If you’re interested in contributing to your own community through a DO4URSC event, contact your local Ford dealer and ask how you can get involved hosting an event for your group or organization.
