How smart is your car? Well, if you’re driving the 2013 Ford Fusion, the answer is “very!”

You may already be familiar with SYNC® technology, but it’s now enhanced by MyFord Touch, which allows you to interact with your vehicle using either voice commands or touch screen input. Make calls, listen to music from a connected MP3 player, or find your way around the city using the onscreen GPS. All without having to take your hands off the wheel or your eyes off the road.

Speaking of which, have you ever had that panic moment when you realized you were drifting out of your lane while driving down the highway? Now, your Fusion can use a front-facing camera to watch for lane markers. If you should start to drift, the car can alert you with a chime and actually vibrate your steering wheel.

One of the smartest technologies you can have in a car is one that makes your fuel go farther, and EcoBoost does just that. When you’re driving a car with an EcoBoost engine, it can get more power out of each drop of fuel the car burns, allowing you to go longer between fill-ups. (It doesn’t hurt that EcoBoost’s lower emissions are smarter for the environment, too!)

The Fusion Hybrid also features SmartGauge with EcoGuide helping you achieve better fuel economy. Graphics help guide you to the most fuel-efficient driving style that will allow you to go further between fill ups.

Want another way to save fuel? Ford will also be offering an Auto Start-Stop for the 2013 Fusion. When the car notices that you’ve been stopped and idling for 30 seconds, it will shut down the engine. Lift your foot off the brake, and the engine starts up again. You won’t even notice anything happening…but you’ll notice the fuel savings!

The smart tech inside the car doesn’t just help you conserve fuel, though – it also makes it easier to drive the car, too. The Electronic Power-Assisted Steering (EPAS) system automatically adjusts for the driving conditions, delivering smooth control at faster speeds and more control during lower-speed manoeuvres like parking.

But one of the coolest features might have to be Fusion’s Active Park Assist. Activate Park Assist and your car will notify you when it senses a suitable parking space. It can even do the steering as you back into the parking spot! Not only does this mean faster parallel parking, but it can also help you fit into tighter spaces than you otherwise would have considered!

Now, I’m not going to label a car a genius, but all things considered, the Fusion is one smart ride! If you want to learn more about all of the technologies that help make the 2013 Ford Fusion so clever, check out Ford.ca.
