Ford recently unveiled its new Interceptor police vehicles. We say ‘vehicles’ because unlike the previous Crown Victoria Interceptor, there are now two options to choose from: a sedan based on the 2013 Taurus, and a utility based around the new Explorer.
Ford worked with a Police Advisory Board made up of law enforcement professionals from across Canada and the U.S. to design vehicles that suit modern police needs. The new Interceptors include:
- Ballistic door panels
- Safety Cell construction
- Intelligent All-Wheel Drive
- Flex fuel and EcoBoost engine options (that means a 25-per-cent improvement in fuel economy)
- Heavy duty upgrades for tires, brakes, suspension and power support
Ford has also built a number of customizable options into the Interceptors, allowing police forces to select from a number of both standard Ford options and specific Interceptor upfits. The bottom line: these vehicles provide the power, technology and versatility modern police officers need to help keep their communities safe.
Did we mention they go fast? Check out the video above of the all-new Interceptors tearing up the test track at Ontario Place in Toronto!
