When you’re ready, gently pick your jaw up from the floor and let’s get acquainted with the sixth-generation model of the iconic vehicle that was unveiled to North Americans today on Good Morning America.
The new pony is set to race onto roads next year, which also marks the 50th anniversary of the Mustang.
This is a big deal to many Ford fans, and to us here on the blog. After all, the Mustang is the “heart and soul of Ford,” according to Raj Nair, group vice president, global product development for the Blue Oval.

Now, let’s delve into the specifics of the car.
The new Mustang features a body that is redesigned and quite different from previous models. It’s got a lower, wider stance and a reduction in roof height. There’s a smoother, sleeker profile on the new pony, as evidenced by the steeply sloped windshield and rear glass.
There’s added width to this model, which means that passengers will have improved shoulder and hip room. It also means that the trunk will be shaped more conveniently – it can now accommodate two golf bags, for example.
Engine options for the new model include a V8, V6, and an all-new 2.3-litre EcoBoost.
Think of it as a Mustang to fit any lifestyle.
The 5.0-litre V8 has an upgraded valve train and cylinder heads that achieve more than 420 horsepower and 396 pound-feet of torque. It’s designed to achieve better fuel economy, idle stability and emissions.
The 3.7-litre V6 is considered the most accessible Mustang engine and yields 300 hp and 270 lb.-ft. of torque.
The Mustang EcoBoost engine uses a combination of direct injection, variable cam timing and turbocharging to help drivers achieve performance and a great deal of fuel efficiency. It produces more than 305 hp and 300 lb.-ft. of torque.
The cabin of the Mustang was inspired by aviation and features a very high degree of craftsmanship. There are large, clear instrumentation panels that cater to the active driver. Also, drivers can expect improved ergonomics and tactile switches and knobs, that will provide better control.
The Mustang will have plenty of technology features, including Intelligent Access with Push-Button Start, SYNC, MyKey, Track Apps, and MyColour gauges. There is also a new Shaker Pro audio system.
But perhaps more intriguing is the freedom and confidence that the new pony is providing drivers, by way of the Selectable Drive Modes that allow for adjustment of steering, engine response and stability control. This feature will be great for winding back roads or laps around the track.
The Mustang was revealed today simultaneously in six cities spanning four different continents. The cities include: New York, Los Angeles, Barcelona, Shanghai, Sydney, and Dearborn, Mich. This is significant because for the first time ever, the new Mustang will be sold in select regions of Europe and Asia.
