You’ve probably seen Ford mention more than once that we Go Further, So You Can! When it comes to the passionate – and vocal – hot hatch community surrounding the Focus RS, that definitely holds true … and we’d also say “we’re listening.”
The 2018 Ford Focus RS Limited Edition is something of a love letter to car enthusiasts. Ford engineers followed conversations on message boards and Facebook groups and were inspired. Hearing feedback from the very same drivers for whom the vehicle was conceived encouraged the Ford Performance team to deliver an enhanced driving experience, addressing several common requests of the passionate RS community.
Ford Performance chief engineer Jamal Hameedi explains that improving on the “accessible performance” of the RS was a tough task, but “our Ford Performance engineers have delivered a drivetrain capable of wringing every drop of performance from the engine.”
The changes are worth listing here. On the outside, the most obvious update is the brand new “Race Red” body colour option, in addition to the signature Nitrous Blue. Both versions feature a new gloss black rook and mirror caps, while the rear roof spoiler also sports the gloss black finish with blue RS logos on the side wings. Also standard are 19” premium painted forged alloy wheels – with the blue RS center caps, of course.
Inside the vehicle, the cockpit, door handles, handbrake lever and turbo boost gauge surround are wrapped in carbon fibre skin. Equipment from the 2017 Focus “RS2 package” is now standard, meaning black-leather trimmed RECARO seats for all!
The Limited Edition Focus RS features a standard mechanical Quaife® limited-slip differential for the front axle that further improves performance, carrying speed through a corner on the track more easily and allowing for maximum acceleration on the way out. RS drivers can now feel like they’re fully tapping the 2.3-litre EcoBoost engine’s 350 horsepower.
Ford Performance engineers feel so fortunate to work on vehicle that sparks so much passion, debate, and enthusiasm. The conversations and ideation that bubbles up from within these communities provides fresh perspective for the entire Ford Performance team, and the Focus RS Limited Edition reflects that passion. It’s not just a track, it’s a two-way street.
